African Folktale Coming to the Lincoln Theatre StageOn May 20
On May 20th , 2017 at 6:30 p.m. , the Columbus-based African dance company Thiossane West African Dance Institute, will present a staged version of the acclaimed West African folktale, Kirikou and the Sorceress, an adaptation of the award-winning Michel Ocelot film of the same name. Live music, traditional songs and dance will recount the story of a curious young boy who accompanies his warrior uncle to remove a curse on their village’s well. The coming-of-age tale has audiences questioning the true source of evil in our world.
A showcase of performances will precede the evening-length performance. This showcase will include work by participants in Thiossane’s community outreach programs and feature a traditional African initiation for the company’s newest high school graduate, Ami Kounta.
Come enjoy an evening of professional theatrics and celebration with Columbus’ premier African dance company. Appropriate for all ages!
